Pharmaceutical name: Betamethasone Valerate
Pack: 1 bottle (20 ml (0.1%))
Betnovate Lotion contains Betamethasone Valerate as its active ingredient, which is classified as a topical corticosteroid. This lotion is lighter and more convenient to apply to the scalp compared to the ointment and cream forms of Betnovate. It is utilized for treating inflammatory conditions of the scalp. The liquid should be applied sparingly to the affected scalp areas using the nozzle of the bottle. You may rub the liquid into your scalp if desired, but allow it to dry afterward. The Betnovate Lotion must remain on the scalp and should not be washed off. If you need to shampoo your hair, do so and allow your hair to dry before applying the scalp lotion.
Betnovate Lotion is typically applied twice daily. Once your condition begins to improve, it should be used less frequently, according to your doctor's advice. If you do not see any improvement in your scalp within two to four weeks of treatment, you should consult your doctor. Additional treatment courses may be required to manage flare-ups of psoriasis or eczema, but should only be initiated based on your doctor's recommendation.
It should not be used by: Children under one year old; Individuals with skin infections caused by viruses (such as chickenpox or shingles), fungi (like ringworm), or bacteria (for example, impetigo).
Betnovate Lotion must not be used if you are allergic to any of its components. Please notify your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously had such an allergy. If you suspect an allergic reaction, discontinue use immediately and inform your doctor or pharmacist.
Reactions to medications can vary among individuals. The following are some side effects that have been associated with this medicine. The presence of a side effect here does not guarantee that everyone using this medication will experience it: Skin irritation at the application site, including burning and itching; Allergic skin inflammation (contact dermatitis); Thinning of the skin; Stretch marks (striae); Prominence of fine blood vessels under the skin (telangiectasia); Alterations in skin pigmentation; Increased hair growth (hypertrichosis).
Extended use of Betnovate Lotion on large skin areas, broken or raw skin, or under airtight dressings may, on rare occasions, lead to sufficient corticosteroid absorption to cause side effects in other body areas, such as a reduction in the natural hormone production by the adrenal glands. Refer to the warning section above.
